Sipadan Island Closed: All resorts situated on the island of Sipadan were closed as of January 1, 2005. These closures are by government mandate, designed to preserve Sipadan's delicate environment. Per this ruling, divers may visit the reefs of Sipadan, but are not permiitted to set foot on Sipadan Island. Sipadan may still be dived via day boats from the Mabul Island resorts.
